DR. HANI DAWAH
Deputy Senior Media Advisor, Grand Mufti of Egypt
Hani Dawah is the current Deputy of the Senior Media Advisor to the Grand Mufti of Egypt. He is a 2017 International Fellow of KAICIID, Vienna; a member of the Interreligious Platform for Dialogue and Cooperation in the Arab World, as Representative of the Grand Mufti of Egypt, and an incumbent deputy of one of the most popular Sufi Orders in Egypt. He was also an assistant member to the representatives of Al-Azhar in the 50 member-committee tasked with amending the 2012 Egyptian constitution, which was completed in 2014. Dawah studied Mass Communication and specialized in journalism. He obtained a Master degree in Electronic Journalism (Online-Journalism) as well as a degree in Social Media from the BBC Academy for Journalism, London, United Kingdom. He graduated from the Diplomatic Institute in Cairo, affiliated with Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a diploma in International Protocols and Negotiation Skills. Dawah participated in the Preparatory meetings for launching the first Christian-Muslim platform for dialogue and cooperation in the Arab region, launched in Vienna on 26 February 2018 in the presence of the highest religious authorities from Muslim and Christian institutions across the Arab region. He also participated in the regional training program organized by KAICIID International Center for Dialogue in Vienna titled "United Against Violence in the Name of Religion. Social Media as a Space for Dialogue"; as well as received a training course on "Impact Strategies and Influence in the New Media Age", Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirates. Hani studied elementary level Islamic sciences in Al-Azhar mosque classes under the supervision of a group of renowned scholars including Dr. Ali Gomaa, the former Grand Mufti of Egypt, and member of the Senior Board of Scholars. He studied Sufism sciences under the supervision of Sheikh Akram Akeel Mazhar (may God have mercy on him). Hani Dawah worked in the field of Media and Journalism until he was promoted to be the deputy of the Editor in Chief of the online news website “Masrawy” which is one of the widely read news websites in Egypt. Dawah was officially elected to be the deputy of the Senior Advisor to the Grand Mufti of Egypt in 2012 until present. He has made numerous contributions to the field of combating extremist ideologies and has always been an advocate for integration, coexistence and interfaith dialogue through preparing reports and researches for Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta observatory for monitoring extremist fatwas. He is a regular host on a number of TV shows along with his daily articles published in a number of Egyptian, Arab and foreign websites such as “The Huffington Post”, “Masrawy”, AL-Masry Al-Youm” and “Al-Aram” among others. His articles are also translated into English and published in the English official website of Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta, as well as English and Albanian in the "Foltash" site. Hani has participated in a number of conferences on issues relating to Hate speech, combating extreme ideologies, remedies for the phenomenon of Islamophobia and others.
