Konko Church of Izuo
Aim
Bring about mutual understanding and cooperation between religions, peace activities, refugee, and relief activities on a global scale, while at the same time contributing to setting up numerous international organisations and constructing schools and orphanages in many South Asian countries.
History
The religion Konko-kyo was founded by Konko Daijin in 1859 when he received the Divine Call " Preach faith which you are saved by " from Tenchi-Kane-no-Kami, i.e. Principal Parent of the Universe. Konko-kyo has approx. 1,000 churches in Japan and around the world. Among them Konko Church of Izuo was established in Osaka in 1927 by the late Most Rev. Toshio Miyake in the hope of "May people be blessed!"
IRD Activities
- Participation in Interreligious Dialogue
The late Most Rev. Toshio Miyake was admired as a promoter of peace activities worldly. He was often invited as a representative of Japanese religious leaders by the Popes and the Secretary-Generals of the United Nations. Moreover he took important roles as an honourary president of World Conference on Religion and Peace (WCRP) and many other international organisations. He also held peace forums inviting many leaders from all over the world
- International Religious Fellowship of Osaka
Several important and enlightening symposia have been held in the past few years by the International Religious Fellowship in Osaka (IRFO). The Fellowship, founded in 1947 by the Most Rev. Toshio Miyake, is a world-wide issue by local religious leaders. The organisation has often invited important figures to take part in informative meetings. Japanese participants have discussed various issues in the past, such as the ethical concerns of organ transplants from brain-dead donors. In addition, foreign scholars have also taken part in the symposia
- The Interreligious Gathering of Prayer for World Peace
The Interreligious Gathering of Prayer for World Peace, a meeting of the world's religious leaders dedicated to enhancing world peace. The meeting was held to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Religious Summit Meeting on Mt. Hiei which was held in 1987 and was attended by a total of 2000 participants from 19 countries. Prominent among them were representatives from major religions and religious organisations from around the world.
