Buddha’s Light International Association
Aim
Apply tenets of Humanistic Buddhism to benefit society through promoting education, raising gender equality, providing medical services and emergency relief, and supporting environmental sustainability.
History
BLIA was founded in 1992 in Los Angeles, CA, USA by Grand Master Hsing Yun. Over the following years, we established chapters throughout the five continents while increasing our membership and serving communities worldwide.
IRD Activities
- Interfaith Harmony Week
Since 2010, when the United Nations has started celebrating Interfaith Harmony week, BLIA has actively participated into the interfaith harmony week events hold in United Nations every year
- Promote Inter- and Intrareligious Dialogue
Grand Master Hsing Yun annually organizes conferences to bring together the various Buddhist schools and to promote dialogue between Buddhists and other major religious groups
- Buddha's light scouts
Established in 1996, Buddha’s Light Scouts is the first Buddhist scouts group in the world and has over 2,000 members. Within their troops, young adults develop and grow their training, leadership, and interpersonal skills. International exchanges between the troops allow the scouts to build upon their education and understand their civic responsibilities and other cultures through travel, workshops, exercises, and community service
- Sportsmanship
Basketball, gymnastics, baseball, and soccer—BLIA supports movement, teamwork, and leadership with sports education for students and youths, for overall health and well-being. Among BLIA’s sports cultural exchange programs is the BLIA Cup, which promotes the sport of basketball among universities and provides young student-athletes with the experience of competition in large-scale tournaments.
