Community of Sant’Egidio International Meeting for Peace
Launched in the mid-1980s by the Community of Sant’Egidio, the International Meetings for Peace promote dialogue and mutual understanding among religions in the service of peace. Inspired by the 1986 Assisi World Day of Prayer convened by Pope John Paul II, the initiative has continued annually in cities across Europe and the Mediterranean, building a global network of friendship among representatives of different faiths and cultures from more than 60 countries.
The 2025 edition of the annual Meetings for Peace, organised by the Community of Sant’Egidio, was held under the theme Daring Peace. Bringing together religious leaders, political representatives and civil society actors from across the globe, the gathering focused on the courage required to pursue dialogue amid ongoing conflicts and global uncertainty, reaffirming a shared commitment to reconciliation, multilateral cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
