Dr. Tarek Mitri is the President of Saint George University of Beirut. He was the Director of the Fares Institute on Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut. He has served in multiple ministerial positions in Lebanon and was the former Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Libya. Further to the American University of Beirut. he has also taught at different universities in Lebanon, Europe, and North America. His research focused on issues of religion and politics and on the history and sociology of Muslim-Christian relations as well as Christianity in the Arab region. Dr. Mitri was the coordinator of interreligious relations and dialogue and the program secretary for Christian-Muslim dialogue at the World Council of Churches in Geneva from 1991-2005. He is a member of the Strategic Council of Saint Joseph University and of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies. He has authored a number of books and articles on contemporary Arab issues, politics and religion, interreligious and intercultural dialogue.
