Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada
Bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people in Canada and around the world through the proclamation of the Word, the administration of the Sacraments and through service in Christ's name.
The ELCIC came into being in 1986 through the merger of the former Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada (ELCC) and Lutheran Church in America-Canada Section (LCA-CS)
- Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations
The work of ELCIC in Mission for Others is enhanced in breadth and depth when they work together with churches within the Lutheran communion, with ecumenical partners across the Christian spectrum, and with people of other faiths. The ELCIC upholds the Lund Principle whereby "we do not do alone what we might profitably do together". The ELCIC participates in two national interfaith dialogues sponsored by the Canadian Council of Churches. The ELCIC is represented on both the Canadian Christian-Jewish Consultation and National Muslim-Christian Liaison Committee. The ELCIC is active in the mission and ministry of The Lutheran World Federation, the World Council of Churches, and the Canadian Council of Churches. Through the partnership with Canadian Lutheran World Relief and their participation in ACT Alliance, the ecumenical work and interfaith witness of the ELCIC is felt in every corner of the globe.
