Inter-Provincial Conference of the Dominicans of Latin America and the Caribbean
Aim
Critically examine our life and mission in the light of the Constitutions of the Order and of the Acts of the General Chapters in agreement with the demands and challenges of the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean; foster relations among the entities of the region, encouraging them to respond to the directions established by the Latin American and the Caribbean Episcopates and the Latin American Conference of Religious (CLAR), promoting the exchange of ideas, possibilities, and apostolic achievements; promote the process of getting to know one another and the mutual collaboration within the Dominican Family.
History
After the 1967 Meeting of Provincial Superiors, two regional organisations were created in Rome, to analyse and to programme more easily the apostolic action of the sons and daughters of Saint Dominic in the Latin American and Caribbean contexts: the Dominican Regional Organisation for Central America and the Dominican Inter-Provincial Conference of South America. At the request of the Provincials and Vicars of Latin America, who gathered in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1971, both organisations merged, thus constituting a single conference that brings together all Dominican entities in Latin America and Caribbean known as the Inter-Provincial Conference of the Dominicans of Latin America (CIDAL).
