Contribute to a peaceful transformation of inter-religious and social conflicts in the particpating program countries of Asia.

History

The Interfaith Cooperation Forum is a program of the Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs. It was born in 2003 out of the realization of the importance of interreligious understanding and unity in the Asian region. It was conceived to be a venue for study and appreciation of the different perspective of religions on peace, and discern the role of religion in peacebuilding.

IRD Activities

  • The School of Peace

    It was an idea born out of the Interfaith Cooperation Forum. The first School of Peace was held in Bangalore, India in 2006. The School of Peace aims to build a community of young people from different faith or religious traditions, and encourage them to promote harmony and peace in their respective communities. School of Peace is a seminar-workshop cum skills training that accommodates 15-20 young adults, especially those from conflict-stricken areas. They are invited to come together to share their struggles and visions of peace from their different faith perspectives, as well as learn some theories and skills in peacebuilding and related subjects. The ICF puts on workshops to support alumni of the school of peace in sharing the message of justpeace in their communities. In School for Peace 2019 young participants from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Timor Leste took part. They come from four different religious backgrounds, specifically Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam

  • Interfaith Peace Resource Center

    The ICF is committed to providing resources for individuals and organizations for use in regional interfaith justpeace actions

  • Movement building activities

    5-day thematic Workshop, which content depends on specific themes that are deemed relevant by the host country. Among the themes discussed were religion and peace, human rights, women’s rights and gender justice, nonviolent communication, understanding conflict and conflict analysis, and peacebuilding frameworks. Peace Institute belongs to movement building activities and implies two-week workshop held on a sub-regional level. This institute covers different subjects taken up thematic workshops but are given more time-allocation. This includes visits to places of worship and communities.
