Nyein (Shalom) Foundation
Aim
Build sustainable peace in Myanmar with justice and a state that protects diversity by effectively supporting inclusive processes; increase inclusion and participation in the peace process through the linking of peace negotiations with key stakeholders, including civil society and grassroots communities; increase engagement with government policy makers and other key decision makers to achieve policy change to ensure people's rights; and increase the capacity of individuals and groups to participate effectively in peace building and state building.
History
Nyein (Shalom) Foundation was established in May of 2000 to act as a forum in order to break down old prejudices and resolve misunderstandings.
IRD Activities
- Social Integration for Peace Program
The objectives of the program are to involve divided communities in dialogue to improve relationships through promoting peace, cultural and interfaith values, to use the creative arts to promote reconciliation across ethnic, religious, political and generational divides, and to achieve social integration through engaging affected communities in trauma management. Examples of the Foundation's projects are 'Interfaith Youth Cooperative Actions for Peace Program' and 'Bridging the Divides with Cultural Expression'.
