Aim

Facilitate unity for building peace, education to eradicate ignorance, welfare to fight against poverty and hunger, progress to promote development; to develop original and alternative perspectives on global and social issues as they relate to our lives, as well as present explanations and solutions; support successful practices in peace building; build relationships among diverse cultures and traditions; unite different point of views on common global issues; provide educational platforms for global and social challenges; encourage people to actively engage in solving social and global problems of humanity; encourage business owners to be part of a philanthropic economy to end problems like poverty and hunger; provide an atmosphere of peace and understanding for all people, regardless of race and cultural tradition; prepare annual reports for both non-govermental agencies (NGOs) and governmental agencies on social issues.

History

Founded as 'Interfaith Dialog Center' (IDC) by Turkish-Americans in 2003. IDC announced in August 2011 that it had a new name, 'Peace Islands Institute' (PII), and that it would operate in other states as well.

IRD Activities

  • Abraham's Tables

    Abraham's table is a forum series organised by the Center for Interfaith Affairs of PII. It aims to establish a common ground among Abrahamic traditions. Every month a different topic is presented

  • Panels

    The Center for Global Affairs, the Center for Social Affairs, the Center for Interfaith Affairs, the Center for Education, and the Center for Media, all part of PII, organise panels, seminars, conferences on global, social, interfaith, and educational issues for public awareness and public benefit

  • International Trips

    PII organises intercultural and interreligious trips to Turkey as just one of their efforts to build bridges and strengthen friendships among Turkish-Americans and their neighbours. Though hailing from different cultural and religious backgrounds, travellers and hosts are provided an opportunity to find common ground.
