Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar
Aim
Promote its role as a sign and instrument of salvation and to build the Church as a Family of God in Africa; and preserve and foster communion, collaboration and joint action among all the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and the Islands.
History
Founded in July 1969, Kampala (Uganda), following a meeting of 6 African bishops, Apr 1968, Rome (Italy), and superseding the functions and objectives of Pan African Episcopal Conference, dissolved after Vatican II. Constitution approved 1970, Abidjan (Cote d'Ivoire). Statutes revised 2003.
