UNESCO Chair in Cultural and Religious Itineraries
Aim
Constitute a digital database of authors who have played a major role in the peaceful coexistence of the three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) in Sicily (7th to 20th centuries); create a critical edition of the Passio Agathae, which constitutes an enlightening testimony on Christian-Jewish relations in Sicily in the early centuries; create a directory of the translations of Christian texts from Latin to Greek (3rd to 16th centuries) which aims to provide a basic research tool; organize education activities with the "Fondazione Oasi Città Aperta" chaired by Father Luigi Orazio Ferlauto.
History
The UNESCO Chair for Peace and Intercultural Understanding was established in 1999 at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) - Laboratoire d'études sur les Monothéismes.

- Master, Conferences, Seminars and Publications
The Chair, through a series of activities including a master, conferences, seminars, and the publication of essays in Italian and French on culture of peace and interreligious dialogue aims to support a multidisciplinary perspective in the study of religions and cultures, raise awareness about the importance of interreligious and intercultural dialogue in the training of specialized trainers, and help religions and different cultures contribute to the growth of a model of culture and education that promotes peace, respect for minorities, tolerance, and solidarity
- Education
6-month courses aimed at students of third cycle, teachers in higher education, researchers and teachers of secondary education, on “Byzantine theology and its tradition (Catholic-Orthodox relations)” and “The three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) in Sicily from the 7th to the 20th centuries”
- Training
One-week courses for teachers of primary, secondary, and adult education, and anyone interested in interreligious dialogue on “The three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) in Sicily from the 7th to the 20th centuries: current situation and prospects”
- Research
Publication of several volumes in the Corpus Christianorum collection in order to promote a better knowledge of Christian Orthodoxy, constitution of a digital database of authors who have played a major role in the peaceful coexistence of the three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) in Sicily (7th to 20th centuries), and directory of translations of Christian texts from Latin to Greek (2nd to 15th centuries).
