Aim

Build a world of peace in which everyone can live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and prosperity; advocate renewal of the United Nations, including a proposal that the UN create an interreligious council within its structures; implement its programs through a global network of Ambassadors for Peace; encourage all religions to dialogue and cooperate for peace based upon the recognition that human dignity derives from a universal divine source that is the basis of harmony and unification; offer relief and humanitarian programs, service-learning projets, character education and sports programs with a special focus on personal leadership and peacemaking skills.

History

Foundation in 1999, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Previously referred to as Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace. Current title adopted in 2005.

IRD Activities

  • Sports for Peace

    Friendly sports competitions among people of diverse cultures and religions have great potential as instruments for peace. Examples of programs are Play Football Make Peace, Run Hour, Super-marathons, Peace Cup, or Peace Trophy

  • Interfaith Understanding and Cooperation

    UPF encourages people from all diverse faiths to foster understanding, respect, and cooperation, recognizing that we are all members of one universal family and Divine Source

  • Interfaith Forum

    UPF organizes interfaith forums as well as youth interfaith forums to bring people of all faiths together to discuss several topics

  • Religious Youth Service

    UPF chapters organize Religious Youth Service projects that offer service-learning opportunities with a special focus on developing personal leadership and peacemaking skills. Through living together and providing altruistic service in a community, participants demonstrate that it is possible for our global human family to come together in peace for our mutual well-being

  • The Middle East Peace Initiative

    It was established in 2003, dedicated to promoting peace and development in the region, with emphasis on interfaith dialogue, people-to-people diplomacy, service projects, conferences, and interfaith pilgrimages to the holy sites.
