KAICIID AFFIRMATION

On behalf of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, otherwise known as ‘KAICIID’, we, as members of the Board of Directors, wish to publicly declare and stand behind the following:

The Vision of KAICIID is ‘Religion as enabler of respect and reconciliation’.

The Mission of KAICIID is ‘Acting as a hub, facilitating interreligious and intercultural dialogue and understanding, to enhance cooperation, respect for diversity, justice and peace’.

ON BEHALF OF KAICIID

…we wish to enhance interreligious and intercultural dialogue in order to foster respect, understanding and cooperation among people.

…we seek to use dialogue to promote justice, peace and reconciliation and to counteract the abuse of religion to justify oppression, violence and conflict.

…we desire to promote mutual respect and understanding among followers of different religions and cultures.

…we hope to promote a responsible way of living the religious and spiritual dimension of individuals and society.

…we intend to promote respect and preservation of the sacred character of holy sites and religious symbols.

…we propose that dialogue be used to address the contemporary challenges to society, such as dignity of human life, preservation of the environment, sustainable use of natural resources, ethical and religious education and poverty alleviation.

…we believe in Dialogue as the best and only way to achieve respect and reconciliation.

…we acknowledge the initiative of King Abdullah, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Austria and the Kingdom of Spain in founding the Centre.

…we reaffirm the purposes and principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in particular the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

…we uphold the principles and values of human life and dignity, human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion.”
