Chaden Hani is a researcher in peace-building initiatives at the Institute of Middle East Studies in Lebanon. She majored in computer science from the Lebanese American University, has a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Religions.

Peacebuilding Initiative: The Network of Churches and Mosques

“The Network of Churches and Mosques “is an initiative aimed at creating a network of collective impact on the Lebanese community and to create a diverse group of active people to improve the livelihoods of their city or area od residence.
Today, although Lebanon is a multi-religious country, it is still divided regionally on a sectarian basis. Religious communities often remain separate from each other, although they live within the same cities. This separation is like a time bomb waiting to explode upon receiving any signal threatening the identity of the faith community. Therefore, it is necessary to initiate dialogue between the various Lebanese faith communities at the grass-roots level. The initiative began in the city of Saida and the second phase will be in Tripoli, and then other Lebanese areas. The key part of the initiative is to build the capacity of the peacemaking team at the Institute for Middle East Studies to expand its activities to other cities after Sida, specifically Tripoli, in the second phase (the next five months).
