Aim
Pursue the foundation's mission to promote and strengthen democracy by providing political education, political advice as well as international collaboration; be active at the interfaces between political practice, science, the trade union movement, civil society and the economy; foster gifted students and postgraduates from Germany and abroad; preserve the collective memory and historic foundations of Social Democracy and trade unions, and make these accessible to the public.
History
On March 2nd the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is founded. In 1933, FES was prohibited by the National Socialists. In 1946, FES is re-established.
IRD Activities
- Interreligious Dialogue
FES promotes interreligious dialogue on an equal footing. This is very important, because Germany is an immigration country and comprises a multi-religious society. FES sees religion not as a problem but rather as an important resource for successful coexistence and social cohesion. The German social democracy was and is influenced by various non-religious worldviews and religious beliefs. It is a good example of how committed people with and without religious beliefs work together for the common good. FES intends to discuss current fundamental issues of religious policy and political issues important to religious institutions and religions with stakeholders. Through this discussion, a dialogue, together and not about each other, can be facilitated. FES actively supports and organises interreligious and intercultural dialogue activities such as conferences, seminars, workshops and poetry slams.
