Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures
Aim
Bring people together from across the Mediterranean to improve mutual respect between cultures and to support civil society working for a common future for the region; contribute to the development of an Intercultural Strategy for the Euro-Mediterranean Region, providing recommendations to decision-makers and institutions and advocating for shared values; overcome the misunderstandings and stereotypes which affect relations between and within the societies of the region; restore trust in dialogue and bridge the gaps in mutual perceptions, as well as promoting diversity and coexistence.
History
Founded in 2004, The Hague (Netherlands), by Union for the Mediterranean. Named after former Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh (1957-2003). Launched in April 2005.
IRD Activities
- Managing Cultural and Religious Diversity at Schools
The manual on 'How to Cope with Diversity in the Classroom', pioneered with the Council of Europe, contains exercises related to religious and cultural diversity
- Anna Lindh Chair on Intercultural Dialogue
The Foundation and its Network facilitate trans-Mediterranean partnerships with schools, youth associations and universities, and run a summer school at Istanbul's Sabanci University.
