Aim
Support people who take responsibility for their future; promote self-empowerment; focus on strengthening local village structures and other groupings in which people are involved; motivate people in Switzerland to think about living conditions in the disadvantaged countries in the South.
History
Fastenopfer (Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund/SCLF) is a Catholic relief agency that was started in 1962. It is firmly anchored in the Church in Switzerland. Since this time, it has collected more than CHF 800 million and its development policies have become more and more active. For many decades, Fastenopfer has supported pastoral projects, formerly known as "missionary" projects, and development cooperative projects.

- Interreligious Dialogue
Development cooperation per se is intercultural interaction, which applies to all phases of the programme cycle. That is why intercultural and inter-religious dialogue are the bread and butter of our daily work. They serve both as a means of communication and as a contribution to the peaceful handling of conflicts between partners or parties of different cultural or religious backgrounds. Inter-religious and intercultural dialogue can also be used strategically as a tool to introduce or promote ideas and values – such as democracy, good governance, human rights. Dialogue and mutual respect are important in cooperating with partners from different denominations and religious communities. When working in such an inter-religious context, it is important to examine what consequences pastoral decisions will have for the coexistence of the different denominations and religions. Different social, cultural and political environments also require different pastoral answers.
