His Beatitude Fouad Twal

His Beatitude Fouad Twal is the emeritus Archbishop and Patriarch of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, having been its ordinary from 2008 to 2016. He holds a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Lateran University which he received in 1975. Archbishop Twal was appointed as Bishop of the territorial prelature of Tunis by Pope John Paul II in 1992, and was elevated to become the Diocese of Tunis in 1995. He was named by Pope Benedict XVI as the coadjutor archbishop of Jerusalem in 2005 and succeeded Michel Sabah as the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem in 2008. Archbishop Twal has been a member of the Congregation of Oriental Churches since 2014 and Gran Prior of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher.
