Aim

Enhance the quality of non-formal educational programmes for young people; foster an exchange of methods and approaches applied in European non-formal youth education; foster nonviolence as an approach to conflict transformation in Europe, particularely in Georgia and the South Caucasus; strengthen capacities for peace-building in Georgia and the South Caucasus; provide direct and immediate support for conflict affected parts of the Georgian population; empower young people and youth leaders to take an active role in community development and in addressing and articulating needs of young people, particularly of marginalised youth; improve the living conditions of young people in Georgia.

History

The Academy for Peace and Development (APD) was established in Tbilisi, Georgia in October 2002, on the basis of the Young Leaders for Peace and Development (YLPD) Programme, which was implemented by the Academy for Educational Development (AED) with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

IRD Activities

  • Capacity development of youth NGOs

    The Academy is engaged in European youth work and realised in Georgia more than 100 projects with international youth workers and young people from all over Europe. Moreover, at the same time, APD supported the learning process of Georgian youth leaders and youth workers by providing the opportunity to attend international educational encounters in many European countries. Examples of the projects: Training Programme “For a Future to Come – International Youth Work on Conflict Management” on youth work as an instrument in conflict transformation (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Germany, Poland, United Kingdom)
