Aim

Improve relations between the Muslim world and the West and enhance understanding of Muslims in the West.

History

The Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding was founded in 1993 by an agreement between the Fondation pour L'Entente entre Chretiens et Musulmans, Geneva and Georgetown University to build stronger bridges of understanding between the Muslim world and the West as well as between Islam and Christianity.

IRD Activities

  • A Common Word

    ACMCU, joined by the Georgetown University Office of the President, hosted this conference on the fifth anniversary of the historic Common Word initiative. The program was a follow-up to A Common Word: A Global Agenda for Change, held in October 2009 and Responding to the Challenges of Religious Pluralism & Conflict Resolution, held in April 2011. The conference explored the challenge of religious pluralism and intercommunal conflicts in Christian-Muslim relations today in post Arab Spring governments in Egypt and Tunisia, and their impact on religious freedom, civil liberties and security, equality of citizenship, and gender relations

  • International Visitors

    Every month Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding welcomes groups of visiting dignitaries, heads of state, academics, policy-makers and activists from all over the world to discuss the activities and programs of the Center and to gain insight into how better to foster religious and cultural understanding.
