Aim

Initiate a historical and anthropological reflection on the foundations and the process of interculturality, with particular emphasis on the place and the evolution of cultures in a globalizing world; promote an integrated system of research activities, training in the field of memory, cultures and interculturality; facilitate collaboration between high-level researchers, internationally recognized professors from universities and higher education institutions in France, Europe, North America, Central America, South America and other parts of the world.

History

The UNESCO Chair in Memory, Cultures and Interculturality was established in 2007 at the Catholic University of Lyon.

IRD Activities

  • Human Rights, Cultural Diversity and Globalization

    Study of the challenges of cultural diversity in the implementation of fundamental rights, in a context of economic globalization. Such an approach requires the study of key parameters (socio-cultural, moral, religious, historical or other) involved or not the effective and universal implementation of these rights

  • Memory of Cultures and Conflict Management

    The memory of cultures broadens the scope of universality and constitutes a major challenge in terms of social cohesion, collective will to live, or even peace between States. Research on this topic will aim to identify socio-cultural and intra-community or inter community religious practices involved in conflict prevention, to study the actual degree of efficiency in the management of conflicts and to examine how these practices can inspire other methods of dispute settlements.
